I'm a freelance illustrator and graphic designer working in the editorial, advocacy and theatrical areas in print and online. I bring a three year foundation in formal art studies in Paris, two decades of experience in Atlanta, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., and the creative vision behind my two children's books and the artistic home design business I founded in 2003. I'm interested in applying my talent, skills and background to produce inspiring and engaging illustrations and designs for newspapers, magazines, book jackets, playbills, websites and related media in ways that help my clients tell their story through images that communicate in a creative and compelling way.
My two children's picture books, published by Holiday House, are Swing Sisters: The Story of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm and Playing to Win: the Story of Althea Gibson. They both feature women who defied racial and gender discrimination to become superstars in their respective fields.
I've worked as the head scenic painter for Adventure Theatre in Glen Echo, Maryland. This work took me to Broadway, as set painter for a musical adaptation of the children's book Three Little Birds, based on the music of Bob Marley.
My business, WOODEN TILE, produces decorative wall art, stationery and pendants that have sold online and in over 150 stores across the country.
I live and work in Bethesda, Maryland.
